During the ceremony and through all of the hectic run-up to the big day, we were each supported by two magnificent attendants.
Standing up for Scott were his best friend and best man, Zaheer, and Diane’s brother Mike. Za was one of Diane and Scott’s best friends from college, and he continues to harass them both on a weekly basis even though they now live in distant cities. He is currently employed as an independent consultant, providing a wide variety of computer and networking services to small businesses and individuals in his hometown of Hicksville, NY. Mike was an instrumental figure in making sure that Diane survived to maturity, and served as a near constant companion during her younger years. He has grown up to be an amazing young man, and is currently mere inches away from completing his bachelor’s degree in English and sociology at SUNY Geneseo.
Diane was similarly lucky to have her best friend from high school, Kathy, as her maid of honor, and Scott’s sister Beth as a bridesmaid. Kathy and Diane met in seventh grade and together dominated the extracurricular activities of Whitesboro High School. They have developed their own dialect of English, and can usually be heard screeching and giggling several blocks away. She is now a certified social studies and special education teacher, and is filling in for a teacher on leave in Irondequoit, NY, for the rest of the 2004-2005 academic year. Beth lent special and invaluable wisdom to the planning of this wedding - not to mention her entire vendor list. Having conveniently chosen to stage her own wedding just six months before us, we could not have pulled our act together were it not for her help. She is now in the late stages of completing a graduate program in physical therapy at Syracuse University.
Several friends and family members were also so kind as to agree to be part of the ceremony. Readers included Jesse Becker, a friend from Northwestern University, Matt Wittenstein, a friend of Diane and Scott’s from college, and Ann Gilis, Scott’s cousin. Roberta Sutton and Gowoon Kim, two former Binghamton University art divas, also assisted with seating, programs and guest book management.
We were also blessed to have large contingents from both of our extended families in attendance at our wedding. We cannot thank our parents enough for all of their support, and for the years of patience and dedication they put into raising us. We look to continue and expand upon their legacies now as we begin to build our own family.
