We were pleased to be able to hold an intimate, non-denominational wedding ceremony at the gazebo at Webster Golf Club. Within the natural setting of late-summer foliage and a host of beautiful flowering bushes, we publicly declared our commitment to each other, honoring our friends and family and looking forward to the life we were prepared to build together.

A string quartet set the stage for the event, playing several classical pieces prior to the start of the ceremony, and accompanying the processional and recessional. Our grandmothers, escorted by the groomsmen, entered the garden first, followed by our parents. Entering from another aisle, the bridesmaids completed the party, before Scott and I walked down the same aisle together, symbolizing our already intertwined lives and futures, even as we prepared to affirm and legal bind them.

The officiant of the ceremony, Reverend Peter House, welcomed all of the guests. Both sets of parents offered their support for the marriage, after which all those in attendance were asked to further pledge their continued blessings and support. Readings were presented by friends and family, before Scott and I officially vowed our love for each other and our faith in and commitment to that love. Peter led a short prayer for the future success of our union. Guests were received on their way to the reception hall.

The wording for the ceremony was culled from materials provided by the imminently excellent Reverend Peter House, who at the time was serving as a guest minister at First Unitarian Church in Toronto. Using this template and selecting from the many suggested phrasings, we supplemented these materials with additional readings and phrasings from collections of poetry and the works of some of our favorite authors.
